Physician Assistant Program

Amy Allen

Amy M.Allen, PA-C, MHS. EdS. Founding Program Director

Mrs. Allen became the Founding Program Director for the USC PA Program in August 2015. A native of North Carolina, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Mars Hill College, her Bachelor’s in Physician Assistant Studies from East Carolina University, a Master’s of Health Science Degree from Duke University and her Education Specialist degree from Lincoln Memorial University. Mrs. Allen has been a certified practicing PA since 2003 working in the fields of Family Medicine, Ear/Nose/Throat, and Pediatrics. She has been working in PA education since 2010 where she has served at different times as an academic coordinator and clinical coordinator. She brings this experience into the planning of the USC PA Program curriculum. She also currently holds a clinical faculty appointment in the Department of Family and Preventative Medicine. Mrs. Allen resides with her husband and two sons in Lexington where she enjoys watching her sons play baseball, reading a good book and traveling.

James Stallworth

James Stallworth, Medical Director

Dr. James Stallworth is a tenured Professor of Pediatrics with the University of South Carolina School of Medicine- Columbia. He graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in chemistry and proceeded to obtain his medical degree from the University of Alabama- Birmingham. He completed his internship and residency in pediatrics at Children's Hospital/UAB. He has been a member of the Department of Pediatrics at USCSOM since 1979. He has been the recipient of many teaching awards highlighted by the Robert Glaser AOA national teaching award in medicine. He is currently the pediatric clerkship director, Vice-Chair of Education and Faculty Development for the Department of Pediatrics, and director of student recruitment for the medical school. As medical director of the Physician Assistant program, he looks forward to being a strong educator in this endeavor.

Misty Chastain

Misty L. Chastain, MHS, PA-C, Director of Didactic Education

Mrs. Chastain is excited to be joining the new USC PA Program.  She grew up in Murphy, NC, a rural town in the mountains of western North Carolina.  She attended The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.  She went on to receive another Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies from East Carolina University and a Master’s of Health Sciences degree from Duke University.  Mrs. Chastain has worked clinically as a certified Physician Assistant since 2003 with over 3 years of experience in Infectious Disease and 8 years of experience in Nephrology.  Mrs. Chastain enjoys traveling, watching sports, and spending time with her family. 

Therin Hill

Therin S. Hill, PA-C, MBA, AACC, Director of Clinical Education

Mr. Hill joined the Physician Assistant Program at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in the Spring of 2016. Born and raised in Western NY, he earned his PA Bachelor Degree from Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania in 1996. During his career as a Physician Assistant, Mr. Hill has worked in ERs in Western NY, Indian Health in South Dakota, and Primary Care at Chautauqua Institution. He has also helped develop the Interventional Radiology PA position in Tulsa, OK. Mr. Hill is a founding member, past president, and current board member of the Association of Physician Assistants in Cardiology, and an Associate of the American College of Cardiology. He has been a preceptor and/or instructed Physician Assistant, Medical, and PharmD students. In 2007, he completed his MBA in Health Care Administration with a minor in Finance from the New York Institute of Technology. Mr. Hill currently resides with his wife and three kids in Lugoff, South Carolina. He enjoys camping and hiking with his family and Boy Scout outdoor activities which have included participating on the medical staff for the 2013 National Boy Scout Jamboree in West Virginia.

David Weil

David Weil, MMSc, PA-C, Clinical Assistant Professor

Mr. David Weil comes to the Physician Assistant Program from Charlotte, North Carolina where he has been practicing Emergency Medicine for the last five years. He began his career as a Medic in the US Army serving in Germany, Southwest Asia, and the United States. Following the Army, he studied Biological Sciences at Southern Illinois University and worked as a Paramedic in Metro East St. Louis. Mr. Weil is a 2005 graduate of the Physician Assistant Program at Nova Southeastern University. He has enjoyed working in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Pediatrics. He has spent the last 7 years in Emergency Medicine and served as a Preceptor for multiple PA programs. He still remains active in the EMS community with a focus on simulation and education. In his free time he enjoys playing golf and being outdoors. He is excited to be a part of the new program at USC and hopes to relocate to the Columbia area soon along with his wife and 2 children.

Rita Dixon

Rita Dixon, MPAS, PA-C, Clinical Assistant Professor

Mrs. Dixon is delighted to be part of the new USC Physician Assistant Program. She was born and raised in Jacksonville, FL always enjoying the beach. There, she received a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of North Florida. She then moved to Charleston, SC in 2006 to attend the Medical University of South Carolina. She received her Master’s of Physician Assistant Studies in 2008. Since then she has worked as a certified PA with 5 years of experience in Internal Medicine and 3 years experience in Cardiology. Currently residing in Rock Hill, Rita hopes to relocate to the Columbia area soon with her husband and two sons.

Robin Todd

Robin Todd, Administrative Coordinator/Admissions Director

Mrs. Todd joined the USC PA Program in May 2016.  Originally from Indiana, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing and Bachelor of Social Work degree from Ball State University and her Master of Social Work degree from USC.  Mrs. Todd is a Certified Healthcare Technology Specialist and a Certified EHR Management Professional.   Mrs. Todd has been a Licensed Master Social Worker since 1996.  Throughout her social work career, she has worked in a hospital, emergency department, physician practices, and community medical centers. In 2002, Mrs. Todd began focusing on healthcare information technology and has implemented, trained, integrated and supported electronic health records, practice management systems and lab information systems.  She has worked with multiple clinical specialties, including internal medicine, family practice and oncology.  Mrs. Todd currently resides in Lexington with her husband and son.  She enjoys participating in her son’s percussion, marching band and acting activities and she also enjoys playing clarinet with the Lexington Community Band.

Alyssia Dangler

Alyssia Dangler, Administrative Assistant

Ms. Dangler is looking forward to joining and growing with the new Physician Assistant program at USC. Born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina, she attended Columbia College where she majored in history and political science and graduated in 2013. She has extensive experience in the administrative field and is excited to bring these skills to the USC PA program. Ms. Dangler currently resides in Columbia with her family. She enjoys traveling, hiking, getting lost in a good book and discovering new things.
